Big East Lacrosse Project

So the idea behind this is making a full on conference for major conferences in the sport of lacrosse. The ACC and Big East both were counted as "D1 Independents" on the NCAA Lacrosse final rankings from last season. The Big East had 7 teams in a mini conference, but thats not what I'm going for! I'm aiming for like 12.

Imagine a full on NCAA lacrosse sport, with all the teams and conferences. Here are the top 4 actual lacrosse teams in the Big East.

1. Syracuse
I went with what the basketball team made work. Blocks that went in order on the pants. I did that, but added it to the sleeves. Simple script and font on the front, and I added some piping for nike, and it felt like it needed something up front.

2. Georgetown
I searched "Georgetown lacrosse", and they had some jerseys which apparently had a sublimated pattern like what you see below. I deiced that would look best. The helmets are grey, just to add some variation from the navy.

3. Notre Dame
It's not really that easy to make a new Notre Dame design. The team is adidas, and they have practice football jerseys similar to this. I matched the stripe color on the way down. Them old gold helmets were also a must on this. I did put some green in it with a sleeve logo.

4. Villanova
The basketball team had some jerseys that had one color on one side, and one on the other. Kinda like so. I wanted that motif, without straying from the original plan. I decided to do a white helmet instead of a navy one. It just balanced things out on the blue top set. If you match the pants with the helmet on football, hockey, lacrosse, or anything, it will have a nice balance and look better.

Rutgers, St. Johns, and Providence are the next couple for sure. Then I can do some new schools! woooo!

Lacrosse Concept Challenge

So I got this email asking for help
Hello Michael,
I'm Jack Goods, I write over at InLaxWeTrust.com as one of the top box lacrosse writers. We are working on a new project that we will be unveiling soon where we are creating our own fake lacrosse league from scratch, having people vote on the cities and then team names. Then we will have a contest where we have people brand the teams with logos. Its similar to what Icethetics did. i know you have an audience of graphic artists and I was wondering if you could help us get the word out. Its a great opportunity for designers because management from the professional lacrosse franchises read the site and someone's work could catch their eye. Thanks for considering.

If you're interested, go to InLaxWeTrust.com, and look for the league information. I might send in a few myself, actually. So good luck to my readers!

NuLax Template

Little fun fact: your boy used to play lacrosse in high school!

I love the game, I really do. I'm guilty for not following it enough. I started following the SB Nation college lacrosse blog this past January. Since then, I can't escape it. Tons of small New York schools show up on my timeline daily. Then over spring break, my friend gave me back two of my three sticks, since she wasn't using them. I had no choice but to make a vector template!

So since my template making overall has improved since my last phase of lacrosse concepts, I needed to start new. I started from my soccer template. But the only thing that remained was the pants. I changed the jersey shape and cut, shortened the sock, threw on Mathew McElroy's glove template, entirely remade a penny because it wouldn't be lacrosse without it. I made it look exactly like my high school team. Finished with some branding to make it easy on everyone, and bam! Here it is!

Right now, it's in SVG. You can download it below. I'm gonna convert it to .AI soon, but I just prefer woring in inscape on templates.

Lacrosse Template/Concept

Hey everyone. I watched the Virgina, vs Duke lacrosse game. I thought, hmmm, I don't have a good lacrosse template. So I put together a paint template with one I found from a while ago. I just used a blank template based off a picture I found. The grey-ish part is a mesh effect. Here that is...
I did a concept to to show my new template. It's for Duke. The design on the jersey was originally a horn, you know, cause they're the Blue Devils. I made a new logo, based off the D with hoop in it, I put a lacrosse stick head in it. I brought back the cursive Duke script, since I couldn't find the block letters. Enjoy

NCAA Lacrosse Concepts

Hey guys. I was in the mood to do some concepts, for a sport that doesn't get much face time in the concept section. So here is some college lacrosse concepts. First, I needed a new template. The template I used is all mine, so I could send it out if you wish.

I decided to start at the top. The top 3 teams in the country are Syracuse, Virginia, and Cornell. Here!

#1 Syracuse
The current uniforms are really bland. Just orange names, and numbers. I added some blue, and a modern design.

#2 Virginia
I googled Virginia Lacrosse, and saw the jerseys. They had a stripe that ran from one sleeve to the other under the collar. I used that, but moved it up. The stripe ran from each sleeve. Then added some flair to it. I used the same design on the shorts, too. I noticed the script was the same as the NHL Phoenix font, so that explains why I used the Coyotes number font.

#3 Cornell
First thing I did was search Cornell Football, and saw that the jerseys used dual stripes on everything. Why not carry that over to this? You can see where I got it. Then I remembered the basketball team's pants, and so I put them on here. I got rid of the drop-shadow numbers, and made them block, with outlines to match the logos. Vectorizing the Cornell logo was a lot easier than I thought, actually!

ACC LAX 1

Hello.

So I'm probably going to end my baseball career, and start playing lacrosse. Hmm, I never do lacrosse concepts. Lemme backtrack, I went to North Carolina this summer, and to the NC State bookstore. They had some NC State lacrosse gear, thing is, they don't play D1, just a club team. I was watching the NC State-Boston College game this past Saturday and thought of that shirt, since I was wearing a shirt from the bookstore. What if the ACC was their own conference? I knew that only a few colleges played D1. Sure enough, when I went online when i got home i looked up the Ncaa Rankings

1. Virginia- D1 Independents
2. North Carolina- D1 Independents
3. Duke- D1 Independents
4. Maryland- D1 Independents

This is madness! So I thought that's where I'll start. 3 part series, coming up now.

The actual teams
1. Virginia
A Nike school, I thought if I tried some piping it would be pretty cool. I tried making the jerseys realistic. The darker part is suppose to resemble mesh, if you didn't get that. Honestly, I just kinda made this one.

2. North Carolina
I didn't have much to go on here, so I searched the basketball jerseys. One pic was from Hansborrough's days there, with jerseys with the neck horns things. Well, I did that. I went simple with the tops, then put argyle going up the pants to make them more Tarheel-y.

3. Duke
I wanted to go to something more Adidas like. I made something that looked like a jersey in my Adidas Championship Division thread. Then, I HAD to do some tri-stripes. I matched up the numbers and script. This might actually be my favorite.

4. Maryland
I love the yellow and black thing they do. LOVE it, and I figured out an easy way to do it. I ran it up the sleeves and underarms. Then, since it was Under Armour, I had to do some piping! What seems easy, actually was me adding a lot on. It ended up with space for mesh underarms! I did have the underarm pattern go down the pants, but the thing is, it looked like a basketball uniform. I just decided to make it with piping in the end.

So thats it for now. I'll have 4 schools that should maybe have one, ones thats more realistic.

CFL Expansion: part 3 of 4

First off Happy Birthday to Kevin, his birthday was last Saturday, and I had fun at his party. Second, sorry we haven't had any posts for almost a week, I went to a lacrosse camp last week, from 8-12 and was tired the rest of the day, so that explains it. Well this expansion team is called the Quebec Harfangs. I found the logo in the concept gallery on sportslogos.net, it was made bye a person named Gordie. I thought it was really good, and since I needed a team to do, why not his idea. So here it is.Its in the shape of a fleur-de-lis. Good idea. I also made jerseysPretty neat. I have a IHA(icethetics project)logo set to post. Also I found a lacrosse jersey template, Ill have some art to post later. So come back later

More Lacrosse Concepts!

So who here likes lacrosse? No one? Well I did some more concepts.
I did another concept for the Syracuse Orange.
I brought back the SU logo, and the script that went with it. The jersey's just a random design that I whipped up.Alrighty, next is Hopkins.
I just did a college football type jersey. I used the Hopkins script instead of something off word art. I couldn't find the font they used, so i used block, like the script.Comments? Requests?

Triad Elite

In the past, I've done some work for the lacrosse gear company ZimaGear, and this is the newest deisgn. It's for a lacrosse team named Triad Elite(Greensboro, North Carolina area). Originally, I thought that the team wanted a refreshing of their current logo seen below, then eventually, I just redrew the whole thing and made what you see above. I think I made the right call.

Lacrosse Concepts

So I actually had a job designing logos for this lacrosse company! For like, 3 weeks. I got busy, and the concept was difficult and I haven't talked to the guy since. He offered 40 bucks for each concept, but whatever.

So the first concept was for a team called the bandits. All he said was they wanted holsters on their pants. I gave them holsters. I legitimately drew a realistic gun with a belt, stitching, and shadow. Even a belt buckle! i thought this one was really really cool.

Then, he told me a team named the Parrotheads needed a set. That was for exam week, which screwed me over. I submitted one design, a simple one, but he said they wanted crazy. I did this one, which I actually liked a whole lot. The jerseys would be reversible, so that explains that!

Thought you guys wanted to see that.

Big East Lacrosse Project

5. Rutgers
One of the next teams that actually play D1 lacrosse. I wanted some black in here just for balance. Pretty basic design, like everything Rutgers uses. Though it is modern with the under arm design, and piping.

6. Providence
6 of 7 teams with a team. I went grey helmets, black jersey, and grey pants. I limited the white to the piping and words. I decided to make the road jersey grey just to be different, and its light enough.

7. USF
I based these off the football jerseys a little. Those have the horns on the collar, like what I did here. I went with gold helmet and pants unlike the football team. The same font is used just to tie with every other sport they have.

8. Cincinnati
A while ago, I did a bearcats concept with slashes like this. I kind of really liked this look, and didn't want to use adidas templates. I thought the all black with red piping looked cool.

ACC LAX 2

NEXT

Boston College
Since BC is a Under Armour school, i had to do some fun piping and make things up. I had piping going from sleeve to waist. I searched Boston College lacrosse and found the a pic of the girl's team. It had the style as the one seen below with the gold coming back. I made the helmets gold to match football.

NC State
NC State is normally conservative in the jersey design, as seen by the simple football and basketball jerseys. They're Adidas, so tri-stripes, then thought of an Adidas kind of athletic shirt, and put a design under the arms. The front says NC State, with the S being the logo.

Virginia Tech
I had fun with this. I loved the Pro Combat last year with the halftone gradients. That explains why I used it here on a Nike concept. I used the number font they used on it too. Piping loops around the sleeves, and a VT replaced a script.

Wake Forest
I thought of the football team's "Missouri" template. So a design that goes around the back would work. I just kinda went with the flow on it. Nothing really particularly special, but I like the simplicity.

CBL Identities

I can't believe I've never shown you guys this! I run a sim baseball league, completly by myself. I've made Identities and everything for the 5 teams currently playing, and the 6th expansion team. The Original 4 were Austin(who has changed identities for Season 2), Orlando(Who has beat all the predictions and about to make the playoffs.), Portland(Season 1 Champions), and Virginia(About to make their second playoff appearance). Omaha joined my league this season, and Montreal will join for Season 3.

PLEASE check it out. It's a lot of fun.
Here is the site, and here is the rules.

This is why I haven't been doing much concepts. I just want this season done, and I have 7 games and a series left to do then it should be back to normal. Lacrosse is also starting, and school is going. No promises, but I'm working on stuff.

I'll post some more of this league eventually.

Sporting KC Chiefs

If you don't know the story, Lamar Hunt started the Dallas Texans in the AFL. After competing with the Cowboys for fans, he moved the team to Kansas City. After a trip to Ireland in 1962, and going to the 1966 World Cup, he fell in love with soccer. Coming back to the states, he got involved with the APL. Dallas had teams throughout the metroplex, and their University of Texas alumni owner wouldn't sell his team to a SMU grad. There was a team in Kansas City, formed in 1955. In 1967, Lamar bought the team, and basically bought his way into League 2. Much like many European and South American teams, Hunt had the idea to make a sporting club, teams with the same name underneath the same ownership umbrella. In 1972, the team began playing in Arrowhead Stadium with the Chiefs, and Sporting was promoted based on more income allowing players to be bought. The Chiefs had a good 70s, with a league title in 1976, and a US open in 1977. Another league title in 1982 helped establish the team as a premier team in the midwest. Unfortunately, the team had a bad year in 1985, and were relegated to League 2. Two years after, they were moved up to the APL, the same year they won their 2nd USOC. The 90s were hard on KC. Hunt had trouble juggling promoting the World Cup and managing his team. Two relegations in this decade hurt the team, but they would eventually move back up in 1999. Since then, Lamar died, and handed the teams off to his children, who run it to this day.

The logo and kits are very similar to the NFL team that shares the stadium. In addition to the soccer and football team, Lamar helped bring the NHL to Kansas City before selling them in 1976 and the Ice Chiefs moving to Colorado and becoming the Rockies. Teams that have fell under the Chiefs umbrella include an Arena Football team and Major League Lacrosse team.

A-League - Brisbane Roar

I decided to go in alphabetical order, but do the existing teams first. I never did the Roar on my last attempt. They had a logo that looked like it belong to a lacrosse team, and not a soccer club. Going into this year, they intoduced a new logo and a kick ass clean look. I piggy-backed off this idea because I love clean looks. I kept the logo because there's nothing I could do to make it any better.  Paired with Umbro, this should bethe classiest look I do. They have a orange set and a white set. I mixed both. I did the same variation of colors that I used on my Houston Dynamo concept from the 2030 series. The black really pops with the white and the limited orange.
